The next big step: MFA in Creative Writing @Pacific University

Okay.

It’s been seven years since I went to college. I like to write. Should I apply for Masters in Creative Writing? The thought haunted me for some time. I want a channel through which I can organize my thoughts and meet like-minded people. Get inspired, maybe.

A two-year Masters program means quitting your job and a lot of loan (an MFA costs anywhere from 40-60k). That didn’t seem like a wise option. I read about Low Residency programs that are part-time and allow you to keep your job. There were great writers on the faculty lists. Perfect! A part-time program with the same intensive course and rigor seemed like a possibility.

I applied and I got accepted at one of the top 4 programs in the country (low residency) — Pacific University. It starts next month in Oregon. I’m off for the first semester workshops for ten days.

How I continue work and spend 20 – 25 hrs a week for the next two years and earn 52 credits to complete my degree — is another story. Wish me luck.
