new year with a bang

Had a terrific time during the Christmas-new year vacation — Lake Tahoe with my sister’s family, meeting up an old college buddy in LA, a day trip to San Diego, partying in LA’s biggest event with Moby’s Electronica and hiking in snow and rain in Yosemite — ten days was so much fun.

Now that I think of 2008, I had over 3.5 months of vacation last year! It’s by far, the best year in my life. And there are many reasons. I’ve come close to realizing what gives me that kick in the abdomen, more than anything else. My pursuit for a career in fiction writing.

There are so many things to recount from last year — my 35 day backpacking in Europe (I still haven’t blogged and uploaded the pics in entirety), my visit to India in Jan last year, meeting so many *interesting* people in Boston, collaborating with my mentor in his film studio on a short-film script. Having not lived in a single city for more than 5 years (I’ve been shuffling between cities throughout my life), I’ve got an affinity to Cambridge. For some reason, I don’t feel at home when I’m out, traveling! There is something beautiful and intimate about Boston and Cambridge, I can’t tell you. Maybe it’s the Charles river that I see from my  window every night, maybe its the intellectuals that I talk to everyday, maybe the art house cinema, or maybe its just the culture. And to end the year, I got a couple of great job offers, last week.

However, there are some ironies that reminds me that either I’m getting old or someone’s getting old. Many friends that I’ve known for years are shrinking away from my contact list, not sure if it’s their “marriage” that makes them so busy or things have become so socialNetworked that, that I get a response only when a facebook them. Sigh.

This year is a serious test to a couple of things that I have to figure out. And, there’s a BMW M3 in the wish list. I hope it’s going to be kick-ass.
